What Kept Letters is

Kept Letters (keptletters.com) is a private “Open when…” book for two. One person writes pages ahead of time; the other opens them when the moment comes. Each page opens once, and the date it was first opened is saved for both of you.

There are also Days, where you both write about the same evening without seeing each other's entries. There's no feed, no public profiles and no ads.

The service is run by a private individual, the owner of Kept Letters, referred to below simply as the owner.

Who can use it

You need to be at least 16 to use Kept Letters. By using it, you confirm that you are, and you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy.

Signing in and your account

There are no passwords: you enter your email address and get a one-time code there. Anyone who can read your email can get into your account, so keep your inbox secure.

An account is for one person. Don't share one between two of you and don't hand yours to anyone else: a book has two members, and each has their own sign-in.

Your content is yours

Everything you write and upload belongs to you. The service gets exactly one right to it: to store it and show it to the members of your space.

You're responsible for what you add, including making sure you have the right to upload it.

What's not allowed

No illegal content, no harassment or threats, and no posting other people's personal data or images of people without their consent.

Any sexual content involving minors is strictly forbidden.

No attempts to get into other people's spaces, and no deliberately overloading the service, for example with automated requests.

Things that can't be undone

Some things in Kept Letters are irreversible on purpose, so it's worth knowing them up front.

A page opens only once. After the other person has opened a page, its author can't delete it.

A space is deleted for good only if both members agree, because what's in it belongs to both of you. On your own, you can only hide the space from your view, and nothing is deleted.

Free and “as is”

Kept Letters is currently free. It's provided “as is”, with no guarantee that it will run without interruptions or errors.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the owner isn't liable for the consequences of downtime or data loss.

Keeping a copy

The owner does their best not to lose your data, but it's wise to be safe: export your space from time to time. You'll get a single file with everything you've written.

Restricting access

The owner may restrict access to the service for breaking these terms.

Leaving

You can stop using the service at any time. To delete your whole account, email hello@keptletters.com. The Privacy Policy explains in detail how data is kept and deleted.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change. Significant changes will be visible on the site, and the date at the top of this page will be updated. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the new terms.
